Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky tweeted a survey on Monday asking nearly 400,000 subscribers what they want from a 2022 rental platform.
Chesky said Wednesday that most respondents want to be able to pay with Bitcoin (BTC) or other popular digital currencies when renting their next home or apartment on Airbnb. Other requests included clear offers, a customer loyalty program, updated cleaning fees and improved customer service.
Chesky also added that he has seen a number of symbolic thoughts that Airbnb’s potential crypto payment options will not be limited to one or two digital assets. Airbnb currently accepts Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal as payment methods. The CEO also noted that the hotel company has processed $ 336 billion in transactions since 2013.
Chesky was outspoken about the potential of new technology. In September, Fox Business told Fox Business that the company had received several inquiries regarding cryptocurrencies:
“We receive many requests, and I have received them for years, and I have nothing to announce today about it.”
During an interview in November with Neil Patel from The Verge, he was asked what he thinks about the future of cryptocurrency and metaverse:
– We are definitely looking at this. Just right. Like the travel revolution, it is clearly a crypto revolution. Airbnb and crypto have an interesting relationship built on trust. ”

He went on to note that Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, was a former Airbnb employee. The crypto hype surrounding Airbnb comes amid growing competition from decentralized, blockchain-based alternatives such as Travala.com’s Dtravel, which offers vacation rental services.
