The Otherside, a metaverse project associated with the Bored Ape Yacht Club, is scheduled to publish a technical presentation of Phase 1 of the Otherside roadmap on Sunday, July 17 at 4 p.m. UTC.
The First Trip experience will be available exclusively to Otherdeed land owners, known as Voyagers, and has been described by the platform as “a celebration of what’s to come and an opportunity for Voyagers to gather, explore and plan.”
The company indicated that thousands of users could take part in the event, navigating through a curated playing field designed specifically for the test, as well as testing high-resolution 3D Voyager models that can walk and run, jump and emote” and a “symbolic private live broadcast” among other new features. .
Another asset from Otherside has held a minimum price of around 2.9 ETH over the past few weeks, with 100,000 assets on offer and 35,000 owners at the time of writing.
The first flight demo arrives less than a week after two pregnancy tests took place on July 6 and 9 with the goal of assessing the technical limits of the Otherside platform and the collaborative dynamics with the Unlikely team.
The events saw frantic throngs of faceless avatars with overhead name tags and retro emojis racing, dancing and flipping acrobatic around an empty white universe as giant psychics soared and ascended instructions.
Users were advised to engage in activities to test their gaming experience, such as entering their age, trial scores and goals in their gameplay, before the trainee choirs relayed the “Otherside” and “We love Koda” calls.
Twitter user and owner of BAYC #8412, null.eth, and Sandbox am Ambassador allo.eth posted videos on Twitter, which captured the experience of the test event perfectly.
Despite the anthill crab’s visually comical appearance in pregnancy tests, there was widespread praise throughout the community for the quality of the visual presentation, spatial sound and overall experience, with high expectations for the upcoming first flight and future full-scale offering.
Benito, co-founder of digital fashion brand RTFKT, responded, “There were 2.5 thousand people connected and moving live. This is huge, the technology has been demonstrated live with gated access and real people.”
While BAYC co-founder Gargamel, better known as Garga within the community, shared: “There were about 2.5 thousand concurrent users roaming the neutral space. Lots of great information put together to make sure First Trip runs smoothly, and [we] take all your feedback from Discord too.”
Less positively, some have compared strange design similarities to splash templates available through game engines like Unreal Engine. It remains to be seen whether Yuga Labs intends to build and develop its own game engine to launch others and innovate in the future of metaverse games, or simply use a pre-existing model.

For many participants in the NFT ecosystem, the reference to Otherside may still be synonymous with the gas war minting saga and the ensuing financial grudge in late April. However, since then, the publication of an eight-part roadmap for the Obelisk mission, and the constantly implemented test networks, have generated a much more positive narrative about the metaverse project.
