Anonymous bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto appears on a bronze lifestyle statue in Budapest, Hungary’s capital.
According to local news agency Hungary today, sculptors River Gergli and Tamas Geli are designing the statue and unveiling the first plans to show an unidentified figure wearing a bitcoin hoodie.

A hood will be worn over the statue’s head, and the face will consist of a reflective surface so that viewers can see themselves in the mirror while looking at the statue, emphasizing the idea that “we are all Satoshi”.
The project was started by crypto enthusiast Andras Györfi. Speaking to Hungary today, he highlighted the benefits that Bitcoin and blockchain technology brings to the world:
“It is an effective, fair and transparent database that eliminates mistrust between people and can make the world a better place in many areas, from food supply to aid delivery.”
The project is funded by four organizations: Mr. Coin, The Crypto Academy, The Hungary Blockchain Association, and Budapest Blockchain.
The statue will be installed in Graphisoft Park in Budapest’s 3rd district, which already contains a statue showing Apple founder Steve Jobs in jeans, turtlenecks and his sneakers. It was commissioned as a tribute to Jobs of Graphisoft, a Hungarian software company that Jobs invested in as a startup in the mid-1980s.
This is not the first public memorial to celebrate cryptocurrency – in 2018, the Slovenian city of Kraj opened a Bitcoin memorial in the center of the roundabout near the city court.
The monument is a seven-meter-wide horizontal steel ring with the Bitcoin logo in the middle. The project was funded by Luxembourg-based crypto exchange Bitstamp and blockchain software company 3fs.
Hungary appears to favor crypto across the board after the government announced on May 11 plans to cut cryptocurrency from 30.5% to 15% as part of its post-pandemic economic recovery programme.
