A unique drawing of Spider-Man from Marvel Comics by Adam Kubert sold for 12.75 Ether (ETH) ($ 25,000) after it was turned into a non-replaceable symbol on the Ethereum blockchain.
Cobert’s artwork is one of 25 unique works of art expected to be released as NFT by several Marvel artists, including Dan Panosian, Matteo Scalera, Dave Johnson, Andy Kubert and Eric Kanete, as announced on February 15th.
NFTs are sold on the Portion.io platform, which allows users to create and sell rare works of art on the Ethereum blockchain.
A recent ad for the Portion team states: “We would like to announce that professional Marvel artists have decided to make Portion.io their home and will release 25 unique Marvel artworks on the Portion.io platform […] First Wave of Artists – Dan Panosian, Matteo Scalera, Dave Johnson, Andy Cooper, Adam Cooper and Eric Canetti.
Some NFTs have additional bonuses for potential buyers, such as original physical drawing boards and signed picture books. On the same day, Portion announced a new partnership with its Essential Sequential Center for Rare Comics. Piston believes there will be a constant migration of rare works of art to the NFT platform in the coming years. Regarding Essential Sequential, a recent announcement said:
“Here you can find original artwork, books, prints and more from some of the most famous names in the industry. We believe that over time, our platform will become a place where premium art and digital survival come together.
More than $ 100 million in NFTs have been sold in the last 30 days alone, according to the Cointelegraph. The concept of NFT as a legitimate art repository – or value in general – was recently confirmed when the auction house Christie’s in London sold its first purely digital work.
